Enjoy a magnificent house in the historic center, fully restored with great taste and quality. Elegantly decorated with original pieces, it remains faithful to its historical origins, without ever disregarding the standards of quality and comfort required of top quality tourist units. It has ample outdoor spaces, including two balconies and a sunny patio equipped with outdoor furniture for 6 people, wooden pergola and Jacuzzi, for the delight of its guests.

Die Unterkunft
An old and discreet wooden door, hides the secrets of its comfortable and peaceful interior space. The high quality reconstruction, with wood finishes, fireplace and air conditioning, provide exceptional comfort to the house, which accommodates up to 4 guests.
The master bedroom, with a beautiful vault, is almost always the "refuge" chosen by couples, while the second bedroom in the Mezzanine is disputed and much appreciated by the youngest.

The bright kitchen, equipped with above average dishes, utensils and appliances, is decorated in a retro style, which we would expect to find in any country house in England.
The Roman bathroom has a huge shower and plenty of natural light. In fact, like all rooms in the house, which have windows or doors, including the Mezzanine with its two remote-controlled Velux windows, giving the whole house an invigorating light.

The house Secrets of Raposa, with a capacity for 4 guests, can also be combined with the house Évora Romântica, since these can communicate through their outdoor patios.

1. Electrical Panel/Board

If, for any reason, a black-out occurs due to an electrical overload, the electrical panel/fuse box is located near the front door (at the end of the staircase).

This happens essentially in winter months when both the air conditioner and the Jacuzzi are in use at the same time.

2. Hot Water

The house is equipped with an electrical water heater with a capacity for 100 litres. The water is heated, by default, to a temperature of 50ºC. Bearing in mind that after usage of the referred to 100 litres, the water heater requires approximately 1 (one) hour to recover and heat up the water, we recommend a responsible management of the water consumption i.e. quicker or more widely spaced baths, especially when the occupation of the house exceeds 2 guests.

3. Air-Conditioner

The house is equipped with air conditioning in the bedroom and mezzanine and the remote controls are located in each of these rooms. With the environment in mind, we recommend a correct and responsible use of the air conditioning. Please switch off the air-conditioner whenever it is not necessary and every time you leave the house for periods superior to 30 minutes.

4. Mezzanine

The mezzanine has two velux windows with electric blinds. The remote controls are located in the mezzanine.

5. Fireplace

The fireplace can be used by guests in accordance with the normal safety requirements. Guests must indicate, upon check-in, their intention to use the fireplace. Guests will then be provided with a “starter pack” in the value of EUR 10, that includes a basket of wood and also the cleaning of the fireplace at the end of the stay. Each additional basket of wood will cost EUR 4 and can be requested at any time during the stay. The use of cork-oak and holm oak is advisable for the fireplace in order to avoid excessive smoke. The fireplace is equipped with an automatic ventilation system which will initiate a few minutes after the fireplace is in use.

6. Nespresso

The house is equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine and the coffee capsules are supplied free of charge provided the consumption is reasonable. Should you require more capsules or a specific brand of coffee you can request the co-host to provide these at any time during your stay.

7. Wi-Fi

The wi-fi details are located on the actual equipment near the TV.

8. BBQ

The house is also equipped with a WEBER barbecue, operated with special Weber briquettes and can be used by guests. Please note that only the Weber briquettes should be used in order to avoid any damage to the BBQ. The briquette bags can be requested, upon check-in or at any time during your stay, the cost of which is EUR 10 per bag of 4kg. In order to help you calculate the number of bags you will require, please note that a bag of 4Kg should allow for 3 usages and the briquettes, once lit, will last for approximately 100 minutes. Please request any further information you may require in relation to the briquettes or usage of the BBQ. As a matter of courtesy, the grills should be cleaned by the guests after using the BBQ.

9. Jacuzzi

The Jacuzzi is located on the outdoor patio and for this reason it is not in operation during the months of November to March of each year. During this period not all guests use the Jacuzzi and therefore, for the sake of energy conservation it was decided not to heat up the water. However, should you wish to use the Jacuzzi during this period, please inform us of your intention with at least 5 days’ notice prior to your arrival.

You have a wide selection of restaurants in Evora where you can taste the traditional Alentejo food and believe me, you will not regret the experience.
Here are some of my favourite places:
• Fialho (Travessa das Mascarenhas, 16)
o Welll known for its traditional dishes. I highly recommend the Dogfish Soup (“sopa de cação”) and its partridge (“perdiz”) dishes. Very close to the house.
• O Páteo (Beco da Espinhosa, 53)
o Very pleasant with a terrace and also operates as a bar and serves light meals
• Momentos (Rua 5 de Outubro, 61)
o Restaurant with a menu that varies daily depending of the available vegetables, meat or fish. It does not serve rice or fries.
• Tabua do Naldo (Rua de Machede, 19)
o Great for splitting. Generous servings with reinvented Alentejo flavours
• Enoteca da Cartuxa (Rua Vasco da Gama, 15)
o Fine restaurant, with “petiscos” for sharing while enjoying a glass of wine from their cellar collection, including the famous Pêra-Manca.
• Pastelaria Violeta (Rua Elias Garcia, 44)
o Has no sitting space but is known for its confectionary and is the oldest place in town with traditional desserts.

Mercearia do Largo (Largo Alvaro Velho, 6)
o Very pleasant space to have a coffee on the outdoor terrace or enjoy a light meal.
• Vinho e Noz (Rua Ramalho Ortigão, 12)
o Famous for its game dishes. I recommend the wild boar with chestnuts.
• Origens (Rua dos Burgos, 10)
o Tradicional flavours with a different twist. Regional and biological products duly harmonized; with great Alentejo wines.
• Adega do Alentejano (Rua Gabriel Vitor do Monte Pereira, 21)
o At the end of the street you will find a typical Alentejo wine cellar with a small menu but with an awesome codfish dish (“bacalhau á brás”) and an excellent traditionally rich tomato soup
• Cruzeiro do Granito (Rua Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, 2)
o Located outside the Walls, with traditional dishes at very affordable prices.
• Parque dos Leitões (Rua Pedro Sousa, 2)
o Although not a typical dish in the region, the roasted piglet (“leitão”) is definitely worth trying.

With the exception of Mercearia do Largo, Pastelaria Violeta e Adega do Alentejano, reservations are highly recommended.

Should you opt to eat at home, you can do your shopping at the supermarkets located outside the historic centre of Evora.

For small purchases you can use the shops located within the historic centre where you will find food stores, butchers, and the market, for example:

A garbage container is located at the top of the street on the right hand side of the entrance to the parking lot. Recycling containers are also located at the same site.
