Die Unterkunft
Hello! I am so happy you are here ;-)

I am excited to share that my much loved, simply GORGEOUS apartment is available for your traveling needs! I have hosted guests from all around the world, from Australia to Argentina; Colombia to the UK; France to Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Singapore, TaiPei .... and more!

I have been an Air B&B host for nearly seven years (since October 2013), and a SuperHost ever since it was introduced. I've loved every moment of my journey with Air B&B. Customer service and helping you to create great memories are my top priority.

Whether you are here for leisure, personal or business reasons, I'd love to welcome you and ensure that your stay is easy and convenient for you.

BED SIZE in 2 Bedrooms:
-- QUEEN SIZE bed (shown in photos) :: Very comfortable for two adults!

BED SIZE in Living Room:
-- PLEASE SEE PHOTOS. Luxe royal blue sofa folds into a twin-size bed. Additional sheets, comforter, blanket and pillows will be provided. This bed comfortably sleeps one adult.

Apartment sleeps 5 adults TOTAL

NOTE: To check the pricing of your intended stay at my apartment, you can enter the dates you are interested in and click "book it," the next screen will show you the final price before you process payment and confirm.

I love sharing what guests LOVE about the apartment, and what they may not like (depends on their opinion) about the apartment as well. This helps when you are making the decision that is best for you (honesty is my favorite policy).

What guests LOVE about my apartment:
- The proximity to the 6 train subway, which takes you everywhere you need to go in Manhattan or will connect you to a train which will. The subway is only 30 seconds away from my front door and runs every 2 - 5 minutes.
- The spaciousness of the apartment, which is "large" for Manhattan standards
- The diverse, unique neighborhood. It is a mix of Spanish, Caucasian, African American cultures. The neighborhood is becoming more "up and coming" every year but remains true to its Spanish roots.
- There is an elevator in my building!
- Just added a 44 inch flat screen TV. Enjoy!

What guests may not like about my apartment:
- The building is quite large, it is not a brownstone or a three-unit apartment building. The building has about 50 apartments in it. It is also a very old building, so the hallways and stairwells (like most older NYC buildings) need work. Landlords can be cheap, sadly.
- This apartment was last renovated in 2008, so it is not "modern" but represents a true NYC living experience. I have had this apartment for 12 years, and am very proud of it.

Details:
- Your two brightly lit bedrooms (shown in photos) contains a super comfortable QUEEN SIZE bed (complete with many pillows and comforter). Both beds sleep 2. I’ve been told these beds (they are the same mattress / frame) are “magical” by guests!

-A spacious closet with hangers and multiple shelf storage in the bedrooms is available for you to use so that you can hang your clothes comfortably. You are free to leave your suitcases in the living / dining room area to free space in your bedroom, but many suitcases fit "under the beds" as well.

- The full eat-in kitchen is well-equipped for any cooking needs you may have, and you are more than welcome to use supplied condiments, oil/vinegar and spices. Fully stocked with brand new pots & pans and appliances.

- Microwave, coffee maker, toaster, French Press, tea kettle and blender are provided, plus fridge to add any goodies / groceries you pick up at the grocery store literally around the corner from the apartment, City Fresh Grocery.

- The bathroom has a toilet, shower/tub, and sink. You will be provided towels: at least 6 towels + many face and hand towels per person. Toilet paper and paper towels are obviously provided, as well!

- NOTE: I leave "extra" shampoo & conditioner, but bring your own if you are picky!

- You’ll find easy-to-use AC air units for hot summers, and enjoy the benefits of automatic apartment heating for cold winters ones!

- High speed Wi-Fi (watch movies to rest from your busy day!)

- Gorgeous wooden floor, brightly lit living room and quiet apartment building create a happy, serene space for nights/mornings to unwind before hitting the NYC streets

Provided for you:
- Fresh linens and towels
- Shampoo / Conditioner / Body Soap
- Air conditioning in summer & heat in winter
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Free high speed Wi-Fi
- Hair dryer (2)
- Neighborhood guidebook
- Personal attention & care via phone and email!

The best part about my apartment is its location!

- Located less than one block from the 6 train, with access to the Upper East Side (museums, Central Park), midtown (Times Square, Bryant Park, shopping along 5th Avenue) or Union Square / the Village.

- Total time to Times Square / the heart of Manhattan = 20 minutes

I try to meet all guests in person, but if I cannot, the check in process is very easy. If your flights do not coincide with check in or check out, I can be flexible. We'll work it out!

Zugang für Gäste
Guests have access to the entire apartment. This is your home for your NYC stay!

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Some tips on how to get from major airports to my home!

- FROM JFK
Take the Air Tram from the Airport to the subway station (at Jamaica) and take the E train toward Manhattan. Get off at 51st and take the 6 train uptown. Get off at 116th street.

When you get off at 116th, you walk north toward 117th and then bear left. You will cross the street and head west, toward Park Avenue. My building is on the south side of the street.

The building is clearly marked. It is across from a beautiful Cathedral church.

- FROM LA GUARDIA
For public transportation, take the M60 bus to 125th Street / Lexington Avenue. Ask the driver to let you know when the stop has arrived. You can place your luggage at the front of the bus (there is an area for it). A bus ride costs $2.75 with a Metrocard or coins/cash.

The bus will drop you off at 125th and Lexington, where the 4, 5, 6 trains are. Enter the subway and take the 6 train (NOT 4 or 5) one stop downtown (toward Brooklyn) to 116th Street.

- FROM NEWARK
Take the NJ transit train from Newark Airport to Penn Station, NYC. You will see the signs to the train platform in the station. It is a little bit of a "walk" but the signs are clear. Please ask someone to assist you if you can't figure it out as well. Just remember *NJ TRANSIT to MANHATTAN, PENN STATION* are the key words!

You do not need to purchase your tickets in advance - you can purchase them there, but must present to conductor on the train when he walks around. The train from the airport to Penn Station NYC takes about 20 minutes maximum.

The train will cost about $12.50 one way.

From Penn Station NYC you have two options -- depending on which makes you most comfortable.

1.) Get a cab from here to my apartment -- about $25 (less complicated - see instructions below)
2.) Take the subway from Penn Station to my apartment -- about $2.75 (more complicated - see instructions below)

CAB
If you choose to take a cab just depart the station either on 7th or on 8th avenue and you should see a little area where an individual will help you to get a cab. The cabs line up waiting for passengers like you so that you don't have to flag them from the street!

Give the cab driver the address and ask them to use GPS.

SUBWAY
If you choose to take the subway, you will take the 2, 3 train from Penn Station going UPTOWN toward Harlem. You will take EITHER the 2 or the 3. It doesn't matter which one!

The 2, 3 train is the "red" line. You will go to 42nd, 72nd, 96th, 110th and then 116th. You get off at 116th!

When you are on 116th you want to walk TOWARD the CVS pharmacy. It will be on the side of the street you exit the subway from. Walking toward the CVS ensures that you are walking EAST toward my apartment.

**You can also get a 5 minute cab from here, as the walk is about 12 minutes. This is NOT my main subway station, my main subway station is the 6 train which is only 30 seconds away.**

First you cross 5th Avenue, then Madison, then Park (which is under a train overpass.)

Once you cross Park Avenue and go below the train, you are almost to the apartment.

I hope these instructions serve you and your needs!

with gratitude,
xx Sammy

If you want to learn more about this area known as "Spanish Harlem" and its vibrant history, please research online before booking.

According to guidebooks online,
"Spanish Harlem, also known as El Barrio and East Harlem, is sandwiched in the northeastern corner of Manhattan and has historically been home to several immigrant communities. With a population of nearly 120,000, today it's one of the largest predominantly Latino communities in New York City and includes the area formerly known as Italian Harlem, which still harbors a small Italian-American population along Pleasant Avenue."

The history of the neighborhood dates from the 1880s! To learn more about its cultural history, change and impact on the city of New York as a whole, the El Museo Del Barrio is worth visiting on 106th Street & 5th Avenue, along with the Museum of African Art close nearby.

Plus, we can't forget the food! Taquerias, tamale trucks and authentic Mexican restaurants line 116th street and 3rd Avenue. Plus, you can grab a delicious slice of REAL Italian NYC pizza at Sam's Famous Pizza across from the subway. Trust me!! At $2.25 a slice, you'll bite into a slice of delicious gold.

This neighborhood is very diverse - you will find people of all ages, races, economic backgrounds, etc. here. Everyone is kind, generous, and aiming to please!

I absolutely love suggesting what to do and what to see in my neighborhood -- please refer to my guide for more suggestions, and feel free to ask questions before you arrive!
