An escape from modern life in a stunningly beautiful location with a unique rustic nature. A visit to Los Peñones, 9.5km up the Barranco de Arguineguin on the south side of Gran Canaria is a destination like no other. We invite you to drink in the incredible views, eat the fruit from the garden and relax in peaceful mountainside surroundings in this incredible hand built self contained loft studio with twin balconies and private pool. It is simply stunning and refreshingly different.

Die Unterkunft
There is simply nothing like it. A rustic, recycled, bolt hole below a clear blue sky. If you're looking to get off the beaten track then you have found a gem. Originally a working farm, this property has grown almost organically over the years and has mainly been built from recycled items and is wooden and stone in construction.
The space we offer has been built above the original property and is a fully self contained loft studio. The Entrance is via a private road built into the steep hillside which services this house, one other house and 2 working farms cultivating tropical fruit. The property is secure behind a private electronic gate that encloses the parking area with room to turn and leads up to the property nestled into the hillside facing east.
The entrance up to the studio is via wooden steps that are quite narrow and these lead to the entrance balcony with table and chairs for 2. The door to the apartment leads into the open plan kitchen and living/bedroom area.
The kitchen is self contained and has everything you could possibly need to enjoy self catering. It has a fridge that runs very cold to keep your beers nicely cool (no freezer, although it will freeze if you turn the cold all the way up!), a microwave, kettle, cafetiere, small electric oven, toaster and crockery, cutlery, wine opener, glassware etc. It also has a washing machine should you need to wash clothes during your stay. We try to supply cleaning stuffs, washing liquid etc to save on your shopping.
The main room is long and light with doors at both ends and has a sloping roofline leading to plenty of storage under the eaves for your suitcases, a wardrobe, a TV recess with brand new 32" smart HD TV, so if you have a Netflix account you can connect it here, although we have left ours on there for you, just login as a guest. The TV also has a DVD player with a small but growing selection of DVD's, feel free to bring your own. There is also a bedding and towel storage alcove and a small desk area at the end of the room.
There is free wifi internet but this far from the exchange it ain't exactly quick but we're sure that if you want high speed broadband you probably want to stay in a modern apartment with a snack bar by the pool.
The large super king size double bed has a lovely firm orthopaedic mattress with new bedding and there is also a sofa bed for 1 adult/teenager or 2 smaller children in the room. We also have a cot available by arrangement.
The shower room is small and the shower cubicle quite tight but functional and clean with new, clean towels, sink and toilet with extract fan.
The south facing balcony is very private and secluded with stunning views over the south of the valley and is a perfect place for a late glass of wine, lunch, dinner, sun bathing, star gazing, you name it. With no houses overlooking you, you can feel free to fully relax. This balcony also has a small 2 burner gas BBQ for a bit of outside grilling. The gas bottle is left off but easy to turn on and we ask if you use the grill to please give it a little clean up when you have finished.

Zugang für Gäste
As well as their own private entrance, parking for multiple cars, private loft studio with private kitchen and all facilities, shower room, large super kingsize double bed, sofa bed, twin balconies with outside furniture and gas BBQ, the property also features a lower terrace area with a couple of exercise machines. This space is usually available for you to use but we do live there ourselves so you may need to share.
There is also a further lower terrace where you will find the newly refurbished private swimming pool and sunbathing area on the next level of this stepped farmstead property. There is also an outside shower which is a delight to use in summer as the water runs quite warm, although we do ask that you always shower your suncream off before using the pool please. This level also has the newly refurbished day bed area. A perfect spot for escaping the hot sun for an airy snooze or for watching the stars at night.
If you go down another level you're into the garden where you will find various fruits in season; avocado, mango, papaya, limes, oranges and even a fig tree. Help yourselves!
The house also has a ping pong table, a dart board, a (slightly tired) pool table, an outside eleptical trainer and exercise bike and the newly added 2 mountain bikes (lock code is 1974) that are all yours to use.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
The house is entirely unique and rustic. To this end it may not suit everybody. We absolutely love it and you won't find anything quite like because, well there isn't anything quite like it. It is hand built and made entirely of wood with a tile roof. The ceiling and doorway is quite low and taller guests will need to mind their heads, especially at the doorway and near side of the room. The rear of the room, where the roof pitch affords more height is more comfortable for anyone over 6ft.
The entrance road is very steep and requires a confident approach in 1st gear. Initially it looks very steep but its easily drivable but may test your clutch control! Just engage 1st gear, keep your foot down and go for it! Stay left all the way.

Lage

San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Kanarische Inseln, Spanien

The neighbourhood is quiet, local and Canarian, with farms and rustic houses dotted along the valley and clustered in small hamlets with the odd village and a local camp site. The house is located just under 10km up the GC 505, close to the hamlet of El Sau and 1km up from the village of El Horno and 2km away from the village of Cercados Espino.
The closest bar is at the camp site , El Pinillo, just under 1km's walk from the property and the closest shop is 1.5km the other way up the road. The main road (GC505) leads up the valley from the coast and the village of El Pajar and its local beach and local bars and excellent tapas all the way up into the interior of the island passing the Soria reservoir on the way. The route is very popular with serious cyclists who flock to the area to take on the mountainous climb that begins in earnest just beyond Cercados Espino and climbs steeply via a long series of hairpins and levels out again when it reaches Soria before climbing onto the centre of the island and Roque Nublo. The area is popular with walkers, rock climbers and mountaineers and especially cyclists.
There is also an 80 meter rope jump in the Caidero Oscar Gorge near El Horno which is not for the faint hearted.
In the village of Cercados there is a bar and restaurant called El Mato which is popular with locals and very cheap. It's only open day times through the week but opens evenings at the weekends.

Hi! My wife Aga and I (not forgetting Alfie the blind Westie) would like to welcome you into our homes. We live in lovely High Wycombe but we also have a place in Gran Canaria. Our work means we don't get to visit there often, Aga works for Krispy Kreme doughnuts and I am an actor, voice actor and presenter. Our place in the sun is rustic and homely and unique. When we are not there it is entirely yours. I like music, film, sport, fast cars and food! My happiest place is in my home studio or in my kitchen although I may be out running at some point in the day. Aga loves doughnuts and her job and is very house proud. She is often burning the midnight oil but when she takes a rare day off she loves arts and crafts and is always making something (or criticising my cleaning)! My favourite motto in life is Henry Fords wise words: "if you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right". Remember, you only regret the chances you didn't take! We believe in allowing people to be themselves and as long as they like our dog, we generally like them. We'd love to get to know you and your family so why not pay our holiday home a visit. If you're a Spanish or Polish speaker you may find it extra easy to communicate. I lived for 10 years in Spain and speak fluent Spanish and my wife Aga is Polish and also understands Russian (as well as English obviously)

As mentioned, the property has a separate house below that we live in. When we are not present the property is managed by a friendly local called Jack (Jacinto) and his wife Pino. Jack has over 30 years of working with tourism and speaks great English. He lives in the village 1km away and is there to look after your needs should you have any, but the apartment is designed to be comfortable and completely self contained. However, sometimes things can need attention and Jack is there to help with whatever you might need if we're away.
