The birthplace of the world-renowned doctor G. Papanikolaou (Pap-Test), Kymi is also famous for its Folklore Museum, medicinal springs of Choneftiko and local sweet “almond baklava”. Dimosaris Gorge (70km/1hr45mins, Southern Evia)
Take a trip to the famous Dimosaris gorge (12km long) on the north side of Mt. Ochi(1.398m) which ends at the coastal village of Kaliani. Covered in plane, chestnut and oak trees, it is renowned for its wildlife (Natura 2000) with rare species of plants and birds. Start off at Lenosei ‘Λενοσαίοι’ village (approx. 2km from Kaliani) and walk up the gorge following the old cobble stoned path that runs parallel to the river. A good picnic spot is about 40mins uphill walk with waterfalls and big flat boulders ideal for a rest. On your return from the gorge, you’ll see the river that runs into the Aegean sea over a beautiful sandy beach.

These cyclopean structures, built with huge, monolithic stones, are believed to be the creations of the first inhabitants of the area, the Dryopes. Just below the peak of Mt. Ochi is the most important and well-preserved Dragon-house, a place of worship dedicated to Hera or Hercules, according to archaeologists.
