Weitere wichtige Hinweise
RATES: Nightly rates are variable, so check your dates, it's not a flat rate like Airbnb suggests, so your rates might be different.

VIRUS CONSIDERATIONS: There will be no direct contact with guests. If you have a problem or question during your stay please call. Do not come to the door of the main house.

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS: You can travel to Hawaii with a negative COVID-19 test results from a state-approved trusted testing partner. Otherwise visitors are still required to self-quarantine for 14 days in a hotel or motel. This means you cannot use this, or any, short-term rental for your quarantine. You can check the state website for the latest requirements.

TRAVEL ADVICE: We give you travel tips and recommendations for the park and the whole island.

MAP CENTER: The map center has maps of the island and park.

DVD MOVIES: There is a DVD player and screen (no cable or broadcast TV) and a selection of movies on disc. We also have toys and games for kids.

COFFEE and TEA: There is complementary coffee, a selection of teas, sugar, sweetener, and creamer by the coffee maker in the kitchen.

GROCERIES: If you will be staying a while and doing any cooking, you should get groceries in Kona or Hilo before arriving. There are two local general stores, but their selection is limited and the prices are higher.

GRILL: If you would like to use the grill please ask.

WATER and RAIN: The house is on a catchment water system with four-step filtration and treatment including UV-sterilization. There is cedar paneling throughout, so the house smells like cedar. Please understand that we get 9 FEET (2.7 METERS) of rain annually, so when it's really rainy the house can get musty, despite our best efforts, and that is true everywhere in Volcano Village. We provide a space heater.

MATTRESS COVERS: All mattresses, box springs, and bed pillows have covers that are bug-proof and allergen-proof. Additional double-sized air mattress available upon request.

LOCAL ECONOMY: We live here, not on the mainland. All proceeds are income for our family and boost the local economy.

NOTES: Please read the house rules. Do not move furniture around or take it outside. Do not smoke inside. We do not tolerate illegal activities. We do not accept third-party bookings.

ETHICS: We pay our taxes so at checkout you will see taxes applied to the nightly rate, including Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT), General Excise Tax (GET) pass-though, and the County of Hawai'i GET surcharge. We use a dynamic pricing system, so the price varies depending on things like day of the week, season, and special events. We are LGBTQ friendly, and welcome any nationality, political affiliation, color, race, gender, or orientation.

Lage

Volcano, Hawaii, Vereinigte Staaten

The guest house is tucked away from the road behind the main house giving you serious privacy. It's quiet because there is almost no traffic. The neighborhood is literally a rain-forest, dominated by native ohia trees and giant tree ferns. Our skies are so dark that on clear nights the Milky Way is stunning.

Four minutes from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, this is an ideal base for touring the park and is centrally located between Ka'u and Puna. The park is open.

In the village there are five restaurants, two general stores, and a post office - check out my Guidebook for the island at the bottom of this listing. A farmer's market is held in the village every Sunday where you can get food, local produce, coffee, honey, and crafts.

Local food includes the Tuk Tuk Thai food truck, the Lava Rock Cafe, Thai Thai Bistro and Bar, Ohelo Cafe, Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe, Ono cafe, and the upper scale Kilauea Lodge and The Rim at Volcano House in the park.

Using us as a base, in day trips you can visit :

1. Ka'u, where you can see south point (1 h 10 min away), the green sand beach (requires a hike or getting an off-road ride when you're there - don't try to drive it yourself), Punalu'u black sand beach (37 min away), and a working coffee farm and Buddhist temple in wood valley outside of Pahala.

2. Hilo, and points north including Rainbow falls (45 min), Akaka falls, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, "scenic route 4 miles", and the Hamakua coast. Waipio Valley is 2 hours away.

3. Mauna Kea astronomy visitor center is 1 hr 20 min away at 10,000 ft elevation, but getting to the summit would take 2 hours and requires four-wheel-drive. Children under 16 are advised not to go to the summit.

Volcano Village is at 3,750 ft. (1143 m) elevation, the main gate is at 4,024 ft. (1226 m ).
