Was ihr unternehmen werdet

An unusual stroll to discover all the secrets of the first Jewish Ghetto of the world. Avoid the tourist trail and explore an authentic, lesser known but incredible well preserved area of Venice enjoying the secret corners of the city on the water.

Discover with me this very old section of Venice and learn why the Serenissima Republic forced the Jewish community to live under strict rules and how they lived for centuries.
Did you know that the word "ghetto" is coming from a local venetian word?
I will help you to recognize the hidden synagogues (outside) and I will give you insights into the tragedy of the Nazi deportation and how the Holocaust left a deep mark on my beloved city.

Let's stop in front of the oldest pawn shop in Venice, I will explain you why it is not to be missed.

And then ? We will explore together the sestier of Cannaregio, with its beautiful streets and the venetian "skyscrapers", we will cross beautiful bridges draped in the local's laundry, Italian style.

We will end this unique experience by enjoying a glass of wine from my favorite bacaro in Venice or the best gelato in town or the unmissible cannaregio coffee according to the time and season.

I'll show you all of the highlights, symbols and secrets along the way! So let's get to know Cannaregio a neighborhood not only rich in history and religious heritage but beautiful and relaxing!

Lucias Tour was simply great. She brought interesting details as well as a good overview. She is a very charming person and we appreciated her tour very much. Upon all, we got very good restaurant and bar tips that we we would never have found on ower own.

Organising the tour, and consequently the rest of our trip with Lucia was excellent. I received really quick answers before meeting Lucia for the tour, to check that we could bring our dog along and for any restaurant recommendations. Lucia was flexible, approachable and friendly. The tour itself was really great. Lucia understood that as visitors, "the scene of Venice" needed to be historically described before indulging us in the fascinating stories she told us, pointing out little details as evidence in the city along the way. There was nothing we could ask, that she didnt know the answer to. Her knowledge of Venice's history was impeccable. We also met some locals along the way, which made us feel integrated and a part of the city - rather than just day-visitors. Any they also clearly thought highly of her. Thanks to her amazing insider tips, we experienced the best of Venice, from the best sights to the best eats. Whenever we revisit Venice, we will be sure to have Lucia to take us on another of her many tours!

This was a most interesting and moving experience. I feel that I understand now more of the difficult history of the Jewish people in Venice, of how important they were to the success of Venice which also led to them being seen as a threat. The Gheto was both a means of protection and control; today is also a place to remember both the depths of human depravity - to avoid in future, and a place of hope - good people can overcome evil. The tour ended with a good glass of local wine in the pleasant company of other local people. Lucia very kindly gave the tour for me in Italian as I am trying to learn this beautiful language.

WOW. This ended up being the highlight of our time in Venice. Not only did I learn so much but Lucia essentially was our food guide too and her recommendations had us spending the rest of our time in Venice very full and happy. This tour was so special and Lucia is a big part of the reason why. You could feel her passion for the subject and for Venice with the knowledge to back it up. 10/10 would recommend Lucia and this experience.
