An unusual stroll to discover all the secrets of the first Jewish Ghetto of the world. Avoid the tourist trail and explore an authentic, lesser known but incredible well preserved area of Venice enjoying the secret corners of the city on the water.

Discover with me this very old section of Venice and learn why the Serenissima Republic forced the Jewish community to live under strict rules and how they lived for centuries.
Did you know that the word "ghetto" is coming from a local venetian word?
I will help you to recognize the hidden synagogues (outside) and I will give you insights into the tragedy of the Nazi deportation and how the Holocaust left a deep mark on my beloved city.

Let's stop in front of the oldest pawn shop in Venice, I will explain you why it is not to be missed.

And then ? We will explore together the sestier of Cannaregio, with its beautiful streets and the venetian "skyscrapers", we will cross beautiful bridges draped in the local's laundry, Italian style.

We will end this unique experience by enjoying a glass of wine from my favorite bacaro in Venice or the best gelato in town or the unmissible cannaregio coffee according to the time and season.

I'll show you all of the highlights, symbols and secrets along the way! So let's get to know Cannaregio a neighborhood not only rich in history and religious heritage but beautiful and relaxing!

Lucia’s tour of the Jewish Ghetto was outstanding. She is super knowledgable about the history of the ghetto and explains it in an engaging, and unpretentious way. She used all methods of communication - storytelling, photos, engagement with shopkeepers, and incorporation of architecture and artwork. The area of the ghetto is beautiful and quiet; a great escape from the crowds of St Mark’s Square. Lucia is super friendly and helpful, making all kinds of recommendations - from where to dine, what other exhibits to see, how best to get tickets and where to find the best gelato. The tour was most definitely a highlight of my visit to Venice.

This was such an incredible tour. We learned so much that we would never have been able to discover on our own, and Lucia was extremely knowledgeable and nice! We had a good break in the middle for a drink and rest, and great recommendations for food at the end!

I found Lucia’s experience to be so authentic and the type of cultural tourism that provided powerful testimony to the lives and history of the Jewish community of Venice. Lucia shared stories of a people who have existed in this space for over 500 years, people who were simultaneously included and excluded from Venetian society. We experienced in our minds the sweet images of everyday life, children playing, weekly laundry hanging, and families gathering to share traditions passed from generation to generation. Contrasted by the sadness of yellow patches, hidden synagogues, guards and wooden gates that imprisoned it’s people both emotionally and physically. Followed by the utter sadness that is marked everywhere in art, plaques, and stories of the people whose lives were lost in the Holocaust. But in the end I think there is beautiful secret hidden in the walls and stories of the people in this place. There is a rethinking of this symbolic and sacred space that is slowly coming to life. You can feel the hope and light as you round the corner and step outside the ghetto, looking from the bridge back with new eyes and a new vision of what could be.

This was THE BEST tour I’ve ever experienced - and I’ve been on a similar tour about the jewish community in Cannaregio in Venezia. Lucia is beyond amazing! You can tell that she has passion and KNOWS what she’s talking about. Expect to be amazed! Lucia, thank you so much for an amazing tour. Both Marlene and I were bilen away by the many stories. This was the best experince we had in Venezia, no doubt.

If you have an interest in Jewish history and culture then this is a tour worth doing. Whilst the Jewish Ghetto(es) is small Lucia had lots of information to share about the history of the ghetto. Lucia was engaging and had so much knowledge. If you are interested in something different then this is a good option for you. The only small (and I do mean small) critique I have is that a little more detail is possibly needed as to why the ghettoes got locked at night. I’m still not clear on why that was required. Other than that the tour was brilliant!!!!!
