You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind blowing facts about how slavery worked.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you need it.

We use a story format, and we ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. We'll walk down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. We're not going to sugar coat anything. Our job is to give you the facts and let you make informed decisions about history.

We start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour could last between 2 - 2.5 hours depending on several factors.

Hi, I'm Mark - I became a tour guide because I love people, and I love history - I also love to talk :) Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston South Carolina. I’m a southern boy at heart, an actor, and part of a very small group licensed by the city of Charleston to take people on tours. My passion for history, the love of the teaching experience, and the really cool things I get to show you are a big part of why I love doing what I do - so come on... I'll show you my city!

Mark gives a fantastic tour of Charleston! He tailors his tour to your groups’ specific historical interests (Revolutionary War, Civil War, architectural, etc.) and is great at getting audience participation along the way. I learned so much that I would have never otherwise known about Charleston and would definitely recommend the tour!

great tour. Mark is an expert on Charleston history and you will probably learn quite a bit more than you would from any of the carriage tour guides.

This experience was great! Mark asked beforehand what type of history we were most interested in (Revolutionary War, Civil War, Architectural, etc), so he was able to tailor the tour to our interests. The walk was easy, and at several points we were able to dit on benches as Mark told us stories. Loved it, we came away with some great information about Charleston and the South!

Mark was especially welcoming to us. The information and history that he told us was unique and unlike anything else that we did in our week in Charleston. We loved it!

Mark was extremely knowledgeable on the deeply rooted Charleston history and culture. We enjoyed learning about the significance of the pineapple, the mapping of the Charleston roads which is still in place over 250 years later, and how Susan Pringle Frost started organizations to protect the Charleston ways. We learned and saw many places where George Washington was, and his work to unite the states after the revolutionary war. The walk was a comfortable pace filled with beautiful views of the water and many stops to historical places. Mark spoke about many hidden gems of history that a visitor wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn about unless you were on this tour. I highly recommend attending this one!
