Was ihr unternehmen werdet
Montmartre is visited by many tourists but we will see a different side of Montmartre, the authentic side & its historic context. During the Gilded Age (1870s-1914) Montmartre became famous for its cafés, dance halls & cabarets. Many struggling artists lived and worked here : Renoir, Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec...to name a few. We will see where they lived & worked as well as the cafés & cabarets which inspired them. To put these locations into context, I share archived photos of Montmartre from the late 1800s, as well as the paintings the artists created. This Art Walk will help you understand how Impressionism was born through the work of just a few rebellious artists who wanted to see the world differently.... and how Impressionism transitioned & paved the way for Modern Art. We will also visit the hidden squares, picturesque alleys & "secret villages" where wealthy Parisians built private mansions in the 1920s when the area gentrified. We will discover the hidden corners of the city's most scenic neighbourhood : the Montmartre of postcards & movies with charming cobblestoned streets, ivy-covered cottages, windmills and even a vineyard. During the winter season, this culture walk is offered in the evening.... Experience the charm of Montmartre by lamplight, it is something you will never forget !
I am a trained historian and have been giving history & culture walks in Paris for several years. I have thoroughly researched & documented the material for this tour. Using archival photos you will discover Montmarte in the 1890s & early 1900s. My documentation (old photos, copies of the artist's paintings, etc) will bring to life the unique locations of this historic & charming area of Paris. I am a friendly Franco-American tour guide who has a deep-seated love for Paris, both its past & its present. My walks are not your typical sightseeing tours !

Wo ihr sein werdet
We will discover the secrets of Montmarte, its picturesque squares, scenic streets, private villas, winding alleys... all postcard perfect. Away from the more crowded attractions, we will visit the lesser-known treasures that make Montmartre unique : the windmills, the vineyard & the cabarets where the impressionist & cubist artists painted (& partied!). We will see where they lived & labored in obscurity, experiencing the bohemian lifestyle.
