Was ihr unternehmen werdet
We begin and end at Central Park, home of the Saturday morning Farmers' Market and the Hattie Weber Museum of local Davis history and heritage. We will walk and talk a 5K: stops include the Bicycle Hall of Fame, train depot, Putah Creek and the Native American Contemplation Garden, the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts, historical markers including original olive and fig trees from the Davis and Chiles families, the Silo of the University Farm, and more.
Learn about the major influences that have shaped Davis: Putah Creek and early inhabitants, the californios and land grants, agriculture/husbandry, the railroad, and the university farm. We will also have the opportunity to see more recent history in development projects and public art along the way.
All these places are publicly available for you to visit any time, and yet their rich history is not often heard. When you take time to examine the footprints of the Patwins, rancheros, settlers, fur trappers, judges, artists, administrators, and students who walked in the space over decades and centuries before you, Davis will take on new meaning.
Other things to note
We WILL be walking ~3.2 mi., so please wear comfy shoes, dress in layers, and bring water. The walk usually takes 2 hours. If you need to shorten it or need to be somewhere after, let me know in advance so I can accommodate you. We meet at Central Park in front of the Hattie Weber Museum on C St.

I came to Davis for my doctorate over 10 years ago, and fell in love with the city, both past and present. As an academic researcher, genealogist, and local history lover, I've put together a historical walking tour of Davis because so many people spend time in places whose past is hidden right there in plain sight. Spending 90 minutes with the history enhances any other Davis experience.

Serena narrated our walk with charming stories of the history of downtown Davis and the college Campus. Everything was perfect - starting with her timely arrival at the clearly designated meet up location. Parking was easy, the restrooms at the park were open, it was a beautiful fall afternoon, and there was a craft fair being held - so we spent a few minutes there before meeting up on time with Serena. The walk was easy and on paved and even paths and sidewalks. Our highlight was walking along the outdoor UC Davis Arboretum while Serena explained the history of the Putah Native People and the environmental habitats. Serena is knowledgeable about people, places, environment, and languages. Walking downtown Davis with Serena was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

The tour was very informative and interesting. The pace was easy. Serena was very knowledgeable about the history of Davis. It will be fun to return and spend more time in the museum. Walking along the creek was my favorite part of the tour. I felt that the tour was very reasonably priced. I would have paid double the price in most other locations. I would definitely recommend this tour.

I had never been to this town before, so I was curious to have a professional to show me around. I did not expect to find the tour as wonderfully brilliant as it was. Serena is very knowledgeable and great at weaving together the details of the history of Davis in a way that was absolutely captivating. I enjoyed it greatly and would recommend it to everyone.
