So, uh, why does New York build "really, really big things?" We tend to do that a lot.

This is a fast-paced & funny walking essay that explores the answers to that question through the story of the Brooklyn Bridge. And to do so, we have to look the historical stories of immigration, engineering and political machines.

With this tour, we use the bridge and it's bloody, weird history to get a deeper understanding of what is not only New York City, but what makes any city a city.
Other things to note
- This will be a mile of walking, with frequent breaks so be prepared to do a little exercise.

- We will not end the tour where we start, but in a neighborhood called DUMBO where there will be many transportation options to easily get you where you need to go.

My tours are loud, energetic and a little manic, with a focus on the systemic and exploring what is 'history' and questioning what is a city.

I think tours are like essays; they're built on a strong thesis and build an argument as we travel through them. Also, I carry a rubber chicken. Long story, ask me about it on the tour.

I've been giving tours w/ AirBnB for a while now, and I think the guests who respond to my tours the strongest are those looking for something that is outside the "main" attraction (Times Square, Empire State Building) and those who are interested in hearing about the "why" of a city as opposed to the "what."

Wo ihr sein werdet

We walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
We start in the Civic Center in Manhattan and ending in DUMBO. At the end of the tour, you will end up around plenty of food and transportation options and myself, I'll hide in an ice cream shop and stress eat an entire double scoop as you leave so we don't accidently bump into each other in the subway and it's awkward.

John was fantastic. A great blend of true facts and history as well as jokes. The right amount of time for a tour too.

Hands down the best tour guide ever! John is hilarious and he knows a lot about the city. Any question I asked, he had the answer to. And I asked a lot of questions. It was a great experience, even in the rain! I highly recommend this tour!

It was a raining before we started the tour and I was really happy that John still continued even if it’s just me. If you’re planning to cross the Brooklyn bridge to get to DUMBO, I suggest you take this tour, it’s really worth the money. He’s really knowledgeable about architecture, history, politics and even philosophy that helped built the Brooklyn Bridge and New York City itself. He’s funny and speaks clearly (English is not my first language so you’d understand when I say he speaks clearly hehe) and I get to learn so many things today. I appreciate all his efforts to make the tour enjoyable!
