Was ihr unternehmen werdet

Tourists that visit Sibiu actually miss some of the best bits of it(rural areas, nature, traditions, culture). I will try to organize some interesting trips in my spare time. I do not know if I will be the best guide but I will show you some amazing places around Sibiu.

Departure and return: Sibiu

We can go in this trip by bike.

Visit:

Cisnadie - A city with a strong German influence. Here we will visit the city center and Fortified Evangelical Church. As an option if you are interested in bees we can stop to see some hives. Romania is one of biggest honey producer from Europe.

Cisnadioara - The village is protected by a Fortified Church. The church is placed on the top of a 300 meters hill so be ready to climb some stairs. The church was built in XIIIth century and is a representative monument for Romanic art.

Rasinari - typical mountain village. Well known for cheese and philosophers. Here we can debate Cioran's ideas. If you are lucky the local market will be open so we can try some local cheese.

Note: Church entry fee is included. Bike is included (l will rent them for you from a local rental center).

We had such a lovely day with Cristian! We saw some incredible sights and charming villages, we had a nice picnic, and made new friends. And surprisingly enough, we’re hoping to turn this into a habit and start our Saturdays with a trip to the farmers market followed by a day of biking outside the city. Thank you Cristian, we’ll always look back fondly to this day!

The bike tour offered us a unique and awesome experience to discover a couple of nearby localities to SIbiu. Cristian was open from the beginning offering to tweak the experience to our particular fitness level and interest, which is useful to keep in mind. From the beginning to the end it is a fascinating, albeit demanding journey, that's even better thanks to how welcome and at home Cristian makes you feel. I highly recommend trying out this experience to everyone fond of biking and a special kudos to Sibiu for all the seemingly endless bike-lanes that were at our disposal.

Probably the coolest thing I did in Romania. Getting to bike through the countryside and visit the small towns was amazing. You really get to see what it is like to live in these small villages. Not to mention the cheese we tried at the market was incredible. Awesome experience!

Our tour started out with a calm ride through the streets of Sibiu. The weather was pleasant and the air was crisp. Cristian took his time to show us some local sites as we headed to a farmers' market on the edge of town. Once at the farmers' market, we hopped off our bikes and Cristian gave us an amazing tour of some of the most enjoyed foods in Transylvania. He had us sample wild fruits, goat cheese sold by shepherds, rabbit pastrami, rare honey grown in the carpathians, and a host of other local specialities. The farmers' market had a buzzing and lively atmosphere, and we had the chance to see Romanian peasant culture up-close. After Cristian grabbed some snacks for our picnic, we returned to the road to head into the countryside. Our bike ride took us through tree-lined paths, to the edge of forests, and along quaint farmland. The first village we came to was Rasnari. In Rasnari, we saw the local church and even came across a lively wedding party making their way into the tiny chapel--accordion and all! We saw the birthplaces of prominent Romanian poets and thinkers and talked about their contributions to Romanian culture. After Rasnari, Cristian offered to take us off of the beaten path and into a rural and seldomly-visited village called Fântânele. Feeling adventurous, we eagerly accepted. Visiting Fântânele was definitely a highlight of our trip. We picked apples from an old orchard and walked the streets of this silent village nestled high in the mountains. On our walk we came across dairy cows roaming freely in the streets with cowbells around their necks and friendly locals. It was like a scene from a movie. After seeing the village church, we picked out a spot to eat our snacks from the farmers market--goat cheese, garden tomatoes, fresh bread, and rosehip jam. Everything was delicious! Finally, we headed back into town, tired, but amazed and inspired by the places we saw, the people we met, and the food in our bellies. Cristian was a perfect guide. While a simple man, his passion for this region shows through and he gave us a tour we will never forget. Thank you Cristian!!!

A truly superb days cycling and exploring villages small towns and rural life close to Sibiu. Cristian was very considerate, with lots of stories and nothing was too much. I travel quite a lot and love genuine experiences and this was really special. The whole family loved the day. The picnic and home made food were particularly special, together with seeing Cristian’s bees. We cycled approximately 25 miles, but at a pace that was perfect for a mixed ability group. We stopped whenever we wanted. The area and the villages are special. Truly memorable.
